10/09/2016 - 12 p.m. Update - With deep consideration for the entire community, the safety of our students, and the challenges families are facing due to Hurricane Matthew, Duval County Public Schools has decided to close schools on Monday and will reopen on Tuesday, October 11, 2016. Although district and school staff have already deep cleaned schools that were used as shelters and are removing fallen trees from pickup and drop off areas, over a dozen schools remain without power. We also have street lights near schools that are not working with downed power lines. Additionally, we have heard from a number of our employees and families regarding the challenges of returning to their homes after the evacuation, including ongoing power outages. Makeup days will be announced by next week.

Parents and Guardians,

Due to the anticipated tropical storm, and in an effort to ensure overall safety, Duval County Public Schools and Global Outreach Charter Academy have decided to cancel all after school activities on Thursday, September 1, 2016. The after school activities that are canceled at this time include athletic and extracurricular activities, extended day, and all evening school meetings. At this time, there are no plans to cancel school. District officials will continue to monitor the storm’s intensity and work closely with Duval County’s Emergency Operations Center.inclement-weather

If any additional cancellations are required, we will post the information on our website and send out a message via our electronic communication, "Remind" and GOCA's Parent App. GOCA will follow the district's procedures regarding schools remaining opened or closed for tomorrow. Please watch the local news for any additional information for Duval County Public Schools. Please Contact Us for updates

Due to the progression of Hurricane Matthew, Duval County Public Schools is closing all schools and offices, and cancelling all after-school activities and extended day care on Thursday, October 6 and Friday, October 7, 2016.
In addition, all after-school activities are cancelled Wednesday. Extended day will continue until all children are picked up, but we do encourage parents to pick up their children as soon as possible after school.

This decision is based on current storm projections for Duval County, which indicates the likelihood of both hurricane and tropical force rain, winds, and flooding beginning Thursday night and throughout Friday. In addition, key school sites will be made available and used for shelters as requested by the Duval County Emergency Operations Center.
The safety of our students and community is of paramount importance, and we ask all residents to take the proper precautions during this severe weather system.

Dear Parents,

In order to provide a safe and structured process for dismissal on rainy days, we are asking that all parents or guardians picking up students after school follow the procedures listed below:

It is best for parents to park and walk to the appropriate side for your child’s grade when picking up child/children on rainy days.

Parents who arrive early, please wait patiently until your child/children are dismissed.  We ask that you stand to the right of the hallway in the main lobby of the building to keep the hallways clear.

If you want to remain in your car, you must drive to the loading zone for your child/children’s grade level; and give the staff member your child/children’s name. Please wait patiently until your child arrives. Please do not leave your car unattended in the loading zone.

Grade - Pickup locations:

Kindergarten – First Grade with no older siblings – Home Depot side

Second Grade – Eighth Grades with and without siblings – J.C. Penney’s side

Thank you in advance for your cooperation. We want to make this a safe and efficient process for you and your students, so we truly need your cooperation in order to achieve this goal.

If you have any questions or concerns, please give Mrs. Padilla a call at 904-403-1138.
